Martin Chungong Ayafor

 A Sterling and Stimulating Life

Professor Martin Zachary Njeuma was the pioneer English speaking Lecturer in History at the University of Yaounde, and as the first English speaking Graduate student in history, there developed a natural bond and lasting relationship between the two of us.

He very much desired that I continue post-graduate studies under his guidance at the faculty, and had already identified me for a teaching fellowship. Though I moved on to pursue diplomatic training at the International Relations Institute of Cameroon (IRIC), Professor Martin Z. Njeuma continued to mentor and inspire me. He nurtured my interest in research and subsequently offered me, after my graduation from IRIC, the position of part-time Lecturer at the department of History of the University of Yaounde .

He was soft spoken and kind, dedicated and diligent, and wore a perennial smile at all times. It is to him, and because of the foundational values he imparted, that I owe all that I am today. I will surely miss him, and hereby convey to his beloved wife, Dr. Mrs. Dorothy L. Njeuma and the entire family, my most sincere condolences. May the memories of his sterling and stimulating life be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.

My fondest memories of Uncle Zack were at the lunch table in Yaounde when I was at Lycee Bilingue with Maloke and Etona, preparing for our "A" levels. Uncle always came up with some interesting topic to get the conversation going, and he and Aunty Limunga would include us young people in the conversation even when there were older guests present. I met many interesting people at that lunch table. Uncle made us feel that our opinions mattered and this made us walk a little taller. In many ways, it was a magical time for me in spite of the looming exams.

Thank you Uncle Zack for making me feel welcome in your home.

                                 TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE.

Life is short, but Uncle you made the best out of it by being there for us, your family. Your trip to Chicago will always be treasured by Erika and Brian who knew you as Grandpa. They had a goodtime with you playing hide and seek, scaring you around the house. It's time to say goodbye, but your memories will always stay within us and will never be forgotten.

Farewell to a dear brother, Zack

Am still in doubt to believe that you are no more as head of our NJEUMA FAMILY to listen to our problems, find solutions and solve them. You know we loved ourselves so much but God loves you best. We miss you dear, and the vacuum you have left in our families can never be filled. May God grant you rest and peace. and protect us all.

love ,
Sister Alice and children.

Papa Njeuma, as I called you, I screamed because I cannot physically see you again. I cried when I realized that I will not hear those words of wisdom from you again. I remember when we were growing up, Papa Njeuma Mase handed you in my care, you were a special one in a family of girls! I remember when you helped Mama Hilda, your step mother, by giving her money monthly until her death. Papa Njeuma Zacharia, we will miss you. We thank God for a well fulfilled life you lived. May your departed soul rest in perfect peace.

                                                                                    Your sister Hannah
